Privacy Policy

Last updated: 24 October 2026

StudyNaija is a Nigerian online exam-practice platform. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).

1. Data we collect

Account data: your name or username, email address, and your password if you sign up with email (stored in encrypted form by our authentication provider). If you use Google sign-in, we receive your Google name, email address and profile picture.

Study data: the exam and subjects you choose, your target score, the institution and course you select, your practice and mock exam answers and scores, points, achievements, streaks and avatar.

Community data: study groups you join, messages you post, and your challenge and duel activity.

Public display: your username, avatar, scores and chosen institution or course may appear on leaderboards and be seen by other students.

Payment data: payments are made by bank transfer. We keep the details you submit to confirm your payment, such as your name, the amount, the date, the transfer reference or receipt, and your plan. We do not ask for or store your card details or online banking passwords.

Technical data: browser and device type, IP address, error logs, and a push notification token if you turn on notifications.

2. Why we use your data

We use your data to create and run your account, give you practice questions and results, show leaderboards and community features, process subscriptions, send notifications you have turned on, keep the platform secure, and answer your messages.

Our legal bases are your consent, the performance of our agreement with you (the Terms of Service), our legitimate interest in keeping the platform safe, and legal obligations.

3. Consent

By ticking the box when you sign up, you agree to this policy and the Terms of Service, and you confirm that you are 18 or older, or that you have the consent of a parent or guardian. We keep a record of your agreement and its date. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting your account or contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect processing done before it.

Optional features, such as push notifications and non-essential cookies, are only switched on if you agree.

4. Who we share data with

We use trusted service providers to run StudyNaija: Supabase (database, sign-in and file storage), Cloudflare (hosting), Google (sign-in) and browser push notification services. They process data only to provide their services to us.

We do not sell your personal data. We may disclose data if the law requires it or to protect the rights and safety of our users.

5. Transfers outside Nigeria

Our database is hosted by Supabase on servers in Ireland, and some providers process data in other countries. We only use providers that apply appropriate data protection safeguards, as the NDPA requires for cross-border transfers.

6. How long we keep data

We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymise your personal data, except records we must keep by law, such as payment records.

7. Security

We protect data with encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls and secure providers. No system is completely secure. If a breach puts your rights at risk, we will notify the Nigeria Data Protection Commission within 72 hours and tell affected users where the law requires.

8. Your rights

Under the NDPA you may ask to access your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, receive it in a portable format, and withdraw consent. To use any of these rights, email studynaijaapp@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC).

9. Students under 18

Many exam candidates are under 18. If you are under 18, you confirm when you sign up that you have the consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect data from children without that consent, and a parent or guardian can contact us to review or delete a child's data.

10. Cookies

Please read our Cookie Policy to see how we use cookies and similar technologies.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we make important changes, we will tell you in the app. The date at the top shows the latest version.
